According to the Australian Government,
there are three major components of food insecurity within countries which are:
inadequate access to food, inadequate supply, and inappropriate use of food. Almost
all countries experience some form of these components if not all. For
instance, Australia experiences some of these key components as well with it
being present within about 5% of their population. Furthermore, few major
concerns (within this 5%) are for child and family services organizations due to
is possibly negatively impacting the outcomes for children in the short and
long-term aspects (include: academic ability and health issues which include
obesity). However, child and family services can also play a major role in
Australia by improving the food security of their clients. Child and family
services can do this by referring people to their services such as financial counseling which may overall may include underlying factors that could lead to
food insecurity.
Sadly, a large percentage, of the overall
5%, is within the Indigenous People at about 24%. This is mainly due to remote
communities usually experiencing higher rates of food insecurity form limited
“general stores”. Although this does not leave out the Indigenous People that
are living in much more urban environments. These Indigenous People are also
living with food insecurity problems due to aspects like low income, household
infrastructure and overcrowding, access to transport, storage and cooking
facilities. With this all being said an overall problem, for both remote and
urban locations, is that Indigenous People are spending their money on
ready-made food such as fast food. Lastly, I was thinking of how this reminded
me a lot of the Native Americans within the United States of America. It seems
that food insecurity could possibly be
quite common within countries’ native
populations.
What an interesting connection here between food insecurity and social inclusion - very thoughtful - add in the citation for the statistics that you found to strengthen your argument. You might considering including this in your final report too.
